Dear Blout family and friends,
I had the privilege of knowing and working with Jason while he was a student at Hope College. He was one of my volunteers helping teach ESL and also working at the office with clients. The agency where I worked at the time dealt with the most vulnerable as well as Hispanics in need. Jason loved those people and they loved him back. He was always concerned about how he could best use his God given talents to ease their pain. I later helped him when he decided to continue his studies going for his Masters in Social Work. He was a natural when it came to helping others, always putting himself last. He touched many lives and I hope that will be of some comfort to you as you go on without him here. I for once can say that my life is better because he crossed my path. Keep his memories close to you and may God continue to grant you the comfort, hope and peace you need now and in the days to come.

Dear Blout family,
I am on the faculty at University of Michigan and Jason enrolled in my class last September. While I did not know him well, he wrote me of his decision to withdraw from the program after his surgery was deemed a success, in early October, 2007.
His email was so thoughtful and full of hope that I found it inspiring. I hope that sharing his words and insights about himself will be of some comfort to you at this most difficult time.
Jason wrote " Today I withdrew from the School of Social work. My decision was based on a couple of things. First and foremost, I sensed a deep existential feeling, a vocation to turn toward the path of medicine and do rural primary care for underserved populations in the States as well as globally. Medicine has been one of those dreams ever since high school and I never really sought it out. The whole cancer ordeal really allowed me to examine my life to see the ever evolving journey of life unfold." He signed his message "to health"
He was a remarkable young man; I hope that you will one day be comforted and find peace in his many gifts.
With my deepest sympathies for your loss,
Sandra Danziger
